They can make 50,000 cookies in a day. Now that makes us happy!
Wanna go back to 1938? Head over to Dad's Cookies in Dutchtown. Dad's Original Scotch Oatmeal Cookies, originating from Scotland in 1900, came to California. Dad's Cookie Company soon embraced franchising, becoming a pioneer in the industry by 1927. During a visit to St. Louis in the same year, a salesman introduced Carpenter's Ice Cream in St. Louis to the flavor of the Scotch Oatmeal Cookie, leading to Mr. Carpenter obtaining the St. Louis franchise.
In 1938, St. Louis baker Henry Renz Sr. acquired Dad's Cookie Company from Carpenter's Ice Cream. The Renz bakery on Louisiana Avenue and Keokuk Street became the new home of Dad's Cookie Company. Henry "Hank" Renz Jr. took the reins in 1949.
In 1988, the Hastey brothers, another generation of the Renz family, inherited Dad's Cookie Company. Even now, the company offers fantastic cookies in their nostalgic 1930s spot. It's where all the magic happens. The coconut cookie was my favorite!
From NC but a lot of our family grew up on the Oatmeal cookies and they are amazing! We always stop by before coming home, Great service and amazing cookies!!!
If you like a crunchy oatmeal cookie, this is the place. You will go through them fast! Employees are really nice and helpful. They give you samples to make sure you like what you are getting. The oatmeal and the coconut are my favorite. My wife likes the chocolate chip. Glad to know they ship!
I love their milk chocolate dipped oatmeal cookies! All of their oatmeal cookies are very delicious! The workers are always friendly during our visits! I will definitely come back in future visits!
I love Dad’s Cookie Company! Ordered the 3 bag pack online and they were all so delicious and it comes with a Dad Joke! ☺️ Coconut stars was my favorite. Love the history and story of the shop. Can’t wait to visit the shop when I’m down in St Louis.
A St Louis Tradition - Dad's Assorted 3 Lb. Cookie Box for the Holidays!
I visited Dad's Cookie Company a few days ago. I'd never been to the store in the 44 years I've been in St. Louis. Upon entry of course you have to have on a mask as signs are posted. Going into the establishment, my partner and I were greeted by the Staff who was a nice and cordial young woman. She asked us if we'd tasted any of there other cookies which we hadn't. She then started to give us several samples of cookies to taste. They were all good. One was a coconut flavored cookie. One was banana flavored and the other was butter flavored. They were all good crunchy cookies. We got a half pound of the traditional oatmeal and some butter flavored cookies. Let me just say, this was a bunch of cookies. I didn't realize it would be as many as it was in the half pounds nor for the price of just under $6.
Looking around the store there was some awesome memorabilia including an article about the store printed years ago. I saw other snacks and goodies and cute containers for the cookies. I had no idea that you could buy the big glass cookie jar from the store as well. I love that as they give the entire experience with all senses. I included pictures of the photos and newspaper clippings as well. This was a great experience and I will pay them another visit some time soon.
Getting to the establishment was easy as it's on the corner with ample street parking. I didn't feel unsafe in the area, but still don't leave valuables in the car when you go in. Take your family and enjoy as the kids will love to see all the older memorabilia. Besides who doesn't like tasty cookies that you can sample.

Holy bajeesus, how many other authentic small batch, old school cookie makers are left in this country? This is 1 of the best. I know former StL natives that always request scotch oatmeal cookies in every care package I send to them in Hawaii..I try to change things up, but truth be told I think they'd be ecstatic if the entire flat rate box was full of scotch oatmeal cookies. Keep up the good work and see you soon!
